How the Procedure Works
A catheter is inserted through a small puncture, typically in the groin or wrist, and carefully guided up to the narrowed portion of the carotid artery using real-time imaging. A specialized filter device is often used to catch any plaque debris during the procedure, protecting the brain from small clots. Once positioned, a stent is deployed to widen the artery and keep it open, restoring healthy blood flow.
The entire procedure usually takes about an hour, and patients are monitored closely afterward.
