牛顿万有引力理论可以精准计算天体运行,但长期存在超距作用的物理疑难:物体之间的引力效应跨越虚空发生作用,却不需要任何介质传递,牛顿本人也对此感到困惑,并未给出对应的物理解释。

离散秩序几何(DOG)为该疑难提供了本体层面的理解。在DOG图景下,物质对应的底层几何基元在表观空间中相互分立,不存在填充虚空的传播介质,引力并不是某种信号穿过空间距离从一个物体输送到另一个物体。全部基元受同一套全局离散秩序约束,组态关联是内禀的,不受表观空间间隔的阻隔,于是在观测层面呈现出超距作用的表象。该表象只是低维观测投影下的现象,底层并不存在“隔空传递”的物理过程。经典连续时空图景下难以理解的超距悖论,由此得到化解。
