“Choose a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life.”

Well, maybe just the weekends.  That said, we do spend most of our adult waking hours working and many of us continue to work into our mid-60’s.

But there are those who like Chrissy Scivicque of the blog Eat Your Career who strongly disagree with the above, arguing that trying to turn a passion into a career is a recipe for disaster, or at least disappointment.

“When something you love becomes work, it fundamentally—and unavoidably—changes the way in which you interact with it.”

Read into the details and her message is that work is a unique part of our lives and needs to be treated as such. Go in with open eyes and clear expectations. Not all of it is going to be fun, but it can be enjoyable and fulfilling.

The trick is find that balance and jobs that work toward your goals rather than holding you back. Everybody's story is going to be different. We can all benefit from hearing what other people's experience, especially folks who have already been around the block. That's where WriterShelf comes in.

WriterShelf lets you freely share work stories. We all have our work personas. Using a pen name lets you share your actual persona, your true feelings.

Sharing things we appreciate increases well-being by allowing us to recognize the good things in our lives and the reasons they matter.  Sharing challenges can be a satisfying form of release.
